Mrs Fonkem Brenda Nanjai is a Cameroonian, She’s a holder of a Professional Master’s degree in Gender and Development, specializing in Gender Economic and Technical Development. She has experience working in other organizations as a volunteer and as a full-time worker for over 5 years. She is the founder of Fighting Against Poverty for Sustainable Development (FAPS Development). This organization was created out of her passion to empower and help sustain the lives of less privileged people. According to her, “ This idea came as a result of what I observed in my community. I realized many organizations have that tendency to give food and clothing to people which is not helpful to them in the long run.
I also realized that many girls in my community dropped out of school due to early marriages, some don’t even go to secondary school because they are forced to get married at the age of 12 to 14 years. Their fathers give them out for marriage to men old enough to be their fathers just to clear their debts. I imagine this is how I could have ended up if my parents had not moved to the city. I picked up the challenge and decided to do something to create awareness of the importance of girls’ education to the communities and society at large.
Here are other thematic areas like where our impact has reached; Vocational training, health and environmental protection, civic engagement, and women and children’s rights”. This organization since its inception has impacted the lives of more than a thousand (7000) people positively, and I look forward to touching more lives, despite the numerous challenges we face every day.
